Having worked in the North Wales music scene for some years, I had a dream for sometime to stage the not so popular or mainstream electronic artists. I knew so many great performers and with everybody putting on band or acoustic shows I felt it wasn’t fair these guys weren’t getting the chance to play, unless they Dj-ed. So finally when I was given a room to work with at the prestigious Snogfest I knew this was my chance, and it proved very popular.
Two years later and I haven’t looked back. Working as an individual I have established great contacts in the industry through organising and promoting many shows and set up a publishing record label
The wealth of impeccable electronic talent in North Wales is astounding, each artist has their own style, and use different instruments. Some use laptop or game boy and software to generate blip sounds, other use the software to record and manipulate everyday sounds creating sonic artwork. Many write surround sound into their work encompassing the Electroacoustic into their work.
I believe in the work of these artists, I believe there is a valid place for their work in today’s society. The talents of North Wales have long been overlooked, in the shadow of South Wales. Through the work of Bethan Elfyn and Adam Walton this is changing.
As the notoriety of the music scene in North Wales grows, so is what people listen to, boundaries are ready to be broken and the public are hungry for a challenge. Blipfonic music presents this challenge, not aggressively or deliberately but, distinctively, with style.
My intentions for the future of what has, so far, been a voluntary venture, are to build on these foundations to turn Blipfonica into a successful management and representation company as well as run an independent record label. Supporting and developing the work of electronic artists in North Wales. Am I crazy to be setting up a new business venture in times of economic recession? Of course, but according to ????? vinyl sales were up this year, one of the few business sectors to flourish so maybe I haven’t lost all my marbles yet.
I have built up contacts to organise further event and promotions for these artists. Apply for grants on their behalf to enable them to compose new and ground – breaking pieces. I will aim to look at expanding my contacts into other fields on their behalf working with artists, or synchronisation for film or games, for example.
I feel a new dawn approaching, and I want to be there when those first rays break. Who else wants front row seats?
